Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Murder YOU Mystery?
Murder YOU Mystery is an interactive whodunit where six of your colleagues become suspects and everyone else becomes a junior detective. Professional actor-detectives from Engagement Unlimited guide the investigation — but the killer is always one of YOU. It's 90 minutes of non-stop laughter, connection, and genuine suspense — and nobody knows who did it until the very end. It is a murder mystery party built for corporate groups — Vancouver murder mysteries with a script shaped around real workplace dynamics rather than a generic whodunnit.
How many people can participate?
Murder YOU Mystery runs for groups of 10 to 200 participants. It's one of the few interactive murder mystery formats that truly scales — the investigation structure works for an intimate team of 20 just as powerfully as it does for a ballroom of 180.
"The night was FANTASTIC! It was AWESOME. COULD NOT HAVE BEEN BETTER. Brad and Kyle did a FABULOUS JOB with the Murder Mystery and had EVERYONE ENGAGED AND PARTICIPATING and having lots and lots of fun."— Victoria Payeur, Meadow Gardens Golf Club
How does Murder YOU Mystery work?
It runs in three acts. In Act 1, our professional actor-detectives set the scene, introduce the suspects (six of your colleagues), and kick off the investigation. In Act 2, teams of junior detectives gather clues, interrogate suspects, and build their case. In Act 3, the teams present their verdict — and the killer is revealed. One team wins. Everyone leaves having solved a crime together.
"Thank you so much for doing the Murder Mystery team building activity for us! It was a LOT OF FUN! We all really enjoyed the show. Brian and John were VERY ENTERTAINING. The costumes were HILARIOUS and so realistic! Everyone was TRULY ENGAGED."— Erin Koopman, Mystical Distributing Company
Is Murder YOU Mystery appropriate for corporate groups?
Yes — and corporate groups are exactly who it's designed for. The format doesn't require any acting, risk-taking, or vulnerability from participants. Everyone plays as a detective; the actor-detectives from Engagement Unlimited carry the performance. It works equally well for senior leadership teams, large all-staff events, and client entertainment.
"Having Engagement Unlimited come host our team building event (Murder YOU) was INCREDIBLE. Everyone was engaged and had so much fun — even our toughest crowd members were laughing and in it."— Karen Coldham, FortisBC Energy
Do participants have to act or perform?
No. Six of your team members volunteer (or are volunteered) to be suspects — they receive a simple character brief and their lines are guided by our professional actors. Everyone else plays as a detective. No acting training or improv experience needed. The only thing participants have to do is ask questions, gather clues, and argue their case.
"AWESOME EVENT. We are REALLY, REALLY HAPPY with Engagement Unlimited and how PROFESSIONAL the Murder Mystery was and at the same time SOO MUCH FUN."— Vanessa Garcia, Infosilem
How long does Murder YOU Mystery run?
The event runs approximately 90 minutes from kickoff to reveal. Allow time before for any brief setup or introductions, and time after if your group wants to debrief, take photos, or continue the conversation over drinks. We'll give you a precise timeline in your event planning call.
"We had such a BLAST with your Murder Mystery — thanks for making the night SO MEMORABLE."— Max Tims, Fable
Do you run murder mystery dinner parties in Vancouver?
Yes — dinner is one of the most popular ways to run it. We build the investigation around your meal service, releasing each stage between courses so the mystery unfolds across the evening. The one thing to know: this isn't dinner theatre. No actors perform at your table while you eat — six of YOUR guests are the suspects, and everyone in the room is working the case. psst. that's the part every group talks about afterwards.
"The Murder Mystery was a HUGE HIT, and everyone had a FANTASTIC TIME. It was the PERFECT ICEBREAKER for our group — especially since many people had never met each other before and some came from different locations across Canada and the US. The activity was a GREAT SUCCESS."— Julie Hobbart, Factors Group
What's included in Murder YOU Mystery?
Everything. Engagement Unlimited provides professional actor-detectives, costumes for the suspect characters, detective kits for every participant, all clues and evidence materials, scoring and facilitation, and the Big Reveal. AV — screens, projector, microphone — is the venue's responsibility; we'll tell you exactly what we need in advance. It runs either as a cocktail-hour group activity or as a full seated dinner mystery, depending on how your evening is shaped.
"The Murder Mystery was a VERY GOOD TIME. Everyone had fun and Georgia and Kyle were both FANTASTIC. WILL DO IT AGAIN."— Cynthia Bentley, MOLLY MAID Canada
What groups is Murder YOU Mystery best for?
Any corporate group that wants something wildly different from a typical team event. It works beautifully for conference breakouts, holiday party entertainment, onboarding events, department team days and client entertainment. The format delivers laughter, connection, and a shared story your group will be talking about for years.
"We want to thank you for a very entertaining and extremely fun evening. You had us ROLLING ON THE FLOOR at some points, ABSOLUTELY HILARIOUS! The crowd interaction and involvement of members from the audience was quite possibly THE FUNNIEST PART OF THE EVENING."— Tanya Evans, KPMG LLP
What makes Murder YOU Mystery different from other murder mystery events?
Most murder mystery dinners have you watching professional actors perform a scripted story. Murder YOU Mystery flips that completely — six of YOUR colleagues are the suspects, YOUR team solves the crime, and the killer is always someone in the room. Professional actor-detectives guide the investigation, but the drama is real because the people are real.
"I personally have been to several murder mystery parties and I can honestly say I have NEVER SEEN THE LIKE of this one. The interaction with the crowd was incredible."— Alan Daser, Pitt Meadows Golf Club
