The Engagement Friday Wrap-up December 2nd, 2022

Events and holidays for December 2nd and this week:

1974 Final episode of Monty Python's Flying Circus airs on BBC TV.

1978 Neil Diamond & Barbra Streisand's "You Don't Bring Me Flowers" hits #1.

  • National Mutt Day
  • National Tie Month
  • Play Basketball Day
  • National Bartender Day
  • A Blue Christmas
  • Let’s Hug Day
  • National Fritters Day
  • National Pear Month

Reward your favorite Mutt (mixed breeds and mutts everywhere) with a special Tie and then tie on those runners and head to the gym for a Basketball game (invented by Canadian James Naismith), and afterwards celebrate with a cold one and thank your Bartender for their great people skills of talking, listening, joking and being a shoulder to cry on and a person to confide in when needed, and if you happen to see a police, firefighter, EMT, or 911 dispatcher, consider Blue Christmas, a holiday dedicated to how hard they work during the holiday season to keep people safe, and maybe they would appreciate a thank you or even a Hug to show your appreciation, and if that isn't appropriate, how about buying them a Fritter (while Apple is the most popular, try getting a Pear Fritter) and coffee.

Cheers 🐶👔🏀🍹🎄🤗🍩🍐

Video: Active Participation

Improv Comedy

Our award-winning comedic improvisers know how to grab the crowd fast and then dazzle them with a performance that’s full of action, audience participation and belly laughs.

Improv Comedy is a guaranteed crowd pleaser that has generated worldwide applause, praise and recommendations from thousands of performances!

How it works:

  • In advance of the show we send you a questionnaire asking for info your guests. This will be used as the basis for the content of the performance.
  • During the show actors on a stage ask for input from the audience and improvise comedy sketches and games on the spot - much like the popular TV series “Whose Line is It Anyway?” or the quick witted comedy you would see at an Improv club around the world.
  • Perfect as post-dinner entertainment or for in-home parties!

“Thank you for the fantastically funny Improv Group you provided! It was exactly what the client asked for - interactive, customized and FUN!”

1792 Benjamin Banneker first publishes his Farmer's Almanac.

1905 Telimco makes the 1st ever advertisement for a radio set, by advertising a $8.50 set in the "Scientific American" which claimed to receive signals for up to one mile.

    • Celebrate Your Unique Talent Day
    • Buy Nothing Day
    • Black Friday
    • Blase’ Day
    • Maize Day
    • Sinkie Day
    • National Parfait Day

Start the day with a good Flossing, as you prepare to Celebrate Your Unique Talent Day (Can you whistle through your nose? How about balancing an apple on your chin? Can you say the alphabet backwards while belching?), and then figure out the conundrum of having both Buy Nothing Day on the same day as Black Friday (to shop, or not to shop?) and then consider Blase’ Day (Unimpressed by pumpkin spice everything? Heard the same pop song for the 4th time today? It’s okay to be blase’ about it today!), and while you are thinking about what to make for Maize Day (how about Creamy Chili-Lime Corn or Grilled Corn and Bean Salad) avoid being a Sinkie (someone who occasionally dines over the kitchen sink), and have your Parfait (banana split anyone?) sitting at the kitchen table.

PLAYSCHOOL PLAYSCAPES -- Mud Pie Kitchens

An amazing way to create hero-energy and give back to the local community. Groups build Mud Pie Kitchens or Buddy Benches to be donated to daycares and schools in need.

    How it works:

Teams work in groups to win packages of materials and build outdoor play kitchens or buddy benches. These items are made from natural materials for daycares and elementary schools in areas where kids need the most support.

The goal is to encourage collaboration, communication, and creativity while giving back to the community in a hugely impactful way.

“Playschool Playscapes was incredible, I have had so much great feedback about how fun it was, and how much they loved the fact that we were “giving back. I have heard from many people that it was the best sales rally ever...so thank you for contributing to that in a big way!”

    — Helen Pratt Fairmont Hotels & Resorts

    • Apple Cider Day

    • National Play Monopoly Day

Start the Have a Bad Day Day by greeting everyone you meet with your brightest, cheeriest smile you can put on your face, because chaos, my friends, is the heart of the revolution, and all revolutions started on a Bad Day.
Now that that is out of the way, lighten the mood by wearing your favorite Mickey Mouse Hat, or your Princess Dress (as everyone, no matter who they are, can be a princess) and add on extra reflective strips to your clothing to help out with Road Safety Week, before making a donation to a local Housing project (maybe Habitat for Humanity?), then pick up Apple Cider and leeks, onions, potatoes, cream and chicken stock for the Vichyssoise soup (pronounced “vish-e-swaz,” and remember to serve it cold) for your Monopoly game party tonight.

Video: Engagement is STILL the Answer

A Leg UP develops presentation, confidence, and stress management skills. It helps you become a bigger, better, more powerful version of yourself. It teaches you how to ‘rise to the occasion’ even when that feels like an impossibility.

By exploring new, powerful, rules for life, the class directs participants into behaviors that guide them more easily, more directly, to the me they want to be.

We focus on creating internal power by a combination of engaging and interactive sessions that focus on each participant working on these skills each class. Participants will be up on their feet working on controlling their brain and body before, during, and after walking into stressful situations.

This program changes people’s lives by disrupting the way you think about confidence, stress, internal power and who you want to be. And exploring new, powerful, rules for life, helps direct participants into behaviors that guide them more easily, more directly, to the me they want to be.

This work is immensely important for getting A Leg UP:

  • For Young Adults entering the workforce and adult lives. It gives them a Leg UP on some of the most important elements of real success: creating their own internal power, communicating well with others, creating positive energy and a healthier relationship with stress, adapting to change…
  • It's essential for Managers and Leaders to manage their internal worlds and create internal power that makes their jobs easier, more enjoyable, and far less stressful.
  • For the Executive Suite who are constantly being asked to rise to the occasion in a variety of different ways.
  • “I'm seeing positive changes in my team. Your work is changing lives. Thank you!”

“I found that your lessons and notes really help, in fact they help so much the interviewers commented on my positive energy and personality! Thank you so much for teaching me! I'm excited to use more of your lessons in other places in my life!”

“Already seeing the lessons pay off!”

"It is by going down into the abyss that we recover the treasures of life. Where you stumble, there lies your treasure." Joseph Campbell

"Follow your passion, stay true to yourself, never follow someone else’s path unless you’re in the woods and you’re lost and you see a path then by all means you should follow that." Ellen Degeneres

An awesomely fun, on-trend group activity that gets participants up on their feet, singing, dancing, and battling head to head in the ultimate music competition. Your classic game show host will divide the room in half and pit teams against each other in a series of music-based games.

TUNE TRIVIA: A round of light-hearted pub-style music trivia with questions like “Which rockstar wrote the infamous Bangles hit ‘Manic Monday’?” (PRINCE!)

SHAKE IT OFF DANCE-OFF: Representatives from each team are called up to show off their best moves to Taylor Swift’s dance hit “Shake it Off”. Top contenders on each side must face off before a neutral judging party and show off their best “Running Man” “Sprinkler” or even “Fax Machine” - whatever they can rock with the most confidence!

BLIND KARAOKE: An iconic pop/rock song is played, but right before the chorus, the music is cut and guests must guess the next set of lyrics.

e.g. “Wake me up, before you go-go, don’t leave me hangin’ on....” (LIKE A YO-YO!)

“I wanted to send you a note to say THANK YOU very much for all that you did to make our sales rally such a success! Kicking it off with Name that Tune was perfect, and everyone loved it! Video: Facilitation

One of the things we regularly get asked to do is facilitation. One day, multiple days, workshops. Often it's our content and schedule, other times it's the client's content and schedule. Either way we bring some interesting and innovative energy and ideas to these events.
We start with Roger's Rules of Engagement that outlines for the participants how to act to best achieve results.

    Rules like:

  • Misery is Optional
  • Step Up/Step Back
  • Movement is Necessary
  • and the more fun YOU have the more fun THEY have
  • We create power in the room by empowering your participants. We create a 'hive mind' using the wisdom of crowds to lock in learning.

We work through your challenges using our engagement systems and tools for maximum results.

And running through it all is:

    The POWER of PLAY

We usually work with clients multiple times as facilitators. Because they come back:

    1. For more engagement energy.
    2. For more playful power.
    3. For more outstanding results.

“We couldn’t of picked a more perfect way to create bonding and open communication channels between team members."

The Facilitation was fantastic; it was just what our group needed after three long years of not being able to get together."

"It’s life. You don’t figure it out. You just climb up on the beast and ride." Rebecca Wells, Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood

"There’s zero correlation between being the best talker and having the best ideas." Susan Cain, Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can’t Stop Talking

    Video: A Leg UP!

“I'm seeing positive changes in my team.

"Don’t go around saying the world owes you a living. The world owes you nothing. It was here first." Mark Twain

"Speak softly and carry a big stick." Theodore Roosevelt
